Adipic acid is a typical organic dicarboxylic acid with a pKa between 4.41 and 5.41. It can react with common basic substances to form salts, demonstrating acidic properties. Known as the "industrial monosodium glutamate" in synthetic fibers, plastics, and polyurethanes, it is a vital raw material for nylon 66 fibers and engineering plastics, widely used in automotive, electronics, and textile fields. It is also used in the production of polyester polyols, which are further processed into polyurethane slurries, shoe sole stock solutions, and thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU). Additionally, adipic acid is utilized in manufacturing degradable plastics (PBAT), plasticizers, high-grade lubricants, and food additives.

APPLICATION

Adipic acid is primarily used as a raw material for nylon 66 and engineering plastics. It is also employed in the production of various ester products and serves as a feedstock for polyurethane elastomers. As an acidulant in food and beverages, its performance sometimes surpasses that of citric acid and tartaric acid. Additionally, adipic acid is a raw material in pharmaceuticals, yeast purification, pesticides, adhesives, synthetic leather, synthetic dyes, and fragrances.

 

Moreover, adipic acid offers a mild and long-lasting sour taste, with minimal pH fluctuations across a wide concentration range, making it an excellent pH regulator. According to GB2760-2007, its maximum usage level in solid beverages is 0.01g/kg; in jellies, the maximum dosage is also 0.01g/kg; for jelly powder, the usage amount can be increased proportionally to the reconstitution ratio.
